There are so many wonderful, beneficial essential oils and I love lots of them but Agonis Fragrans (or Fragonia) would have to be up there as one of my very favourite oils.
The name ‘Fragonia’ has been trademarked by the exclusive growers to ensure the quality of the oil sold under this name.
The oil is steam distilled from Agonis fragrans, which is a small shrub grown exclusively in the south-western area of Western Australia.
Fragonia is a relatively new Australian oil, being first introduced to Aromatherapists in 2006. It is a unique oil as the 3 main molecular groups are present in almost perfect balance, of a third each.
This is thought to contribute to the oils pleasant aroma and diversity of uses.
The unique therapeutic benefits of Fragonia were first discovered by Dr Penoel. Therapeutic properties include anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antimicrobial, analgesic, decongestant, expectorant, immune stimulant.
Fragonia is equal to Tea Tree as an antimicrobial but is gentler on the skin. It is considered to be an excellent support in the treatment of topical infections such as impetigo, acne, tinea and cold sores.
Case studies have shown Fragonia to be beneficial in relieving the pain associated with arthritis. Fragonia is an excellent expectorant and is indicated for respiratory conditions where there is infection and congestion.
Fragonia has immune enhancing properties and for this purpose can be applied topically over the lymph nodes in the neck, armpits and groin area.
Fragonia is extremely balancing on the emotions. The oil has a deeply calming action and induces a feeling of tranquillity and serenity. It is said to create inner peace and harmony from within. According to Robbi Zeck, Fragonia is also beneficial for letting go of past emotional pain and building resilience.
The aroma of Fragonia is clean, refreshing, delicately camphoraceous with a hint of citrus and a balsamic undertone. It blends well with most other essential oils. Fragonia is a safe, non-toxic essential oil and is safe for use with children, the elderly and during pregnancy.
Fragonia can be added to a carrier oil and applied topically or added to a diffuser for inhalation.
Fragonia truly is a remarkable, unique essential oil and one that should be in the medicine cabinet of every home in Australia.
Health and happiness,
